“深度翻譯”視角下“無為”的翻譯研究——以四版《道德經(jīng)》英譯本為例Abstract:Thisstudyexplorestheconceptof"non-action"withinthedepthtranslationframework,examiningitsrepresentationandinterpretationacrossfoureditionsoftheEnglishtranslationoftheTaoTeChing.Byanalyzingthetranslationstrategiesemployedbytranslatorsandtheculturalnuancesembeddedineachversion,thisresearchaimstouncoverthesubtletiesofthetermanditsimplicationsforunderstandingthephilosophyofTaoism.Thefindingshighlightthechallengesfacedinconveyingtheessenceofnon-actionwithoutlosingitsoriginalmeaningorcontext,suggestingthatadeeperunderstandingofthetextisessentialforeffectivetranslation.Introduction:TheTaoTeChing,oneofChina'smostreveredancienttexts,hasbeentranslatedintonumerouslanguagesoverthecenturies.However,thetranslationoftheterm"non-action"remainsacomplextask,asitencompassesboththepassiveaspectofnotdoinganythingandtheactiveaspectofremainingunobtrusiveorinconspicuous.Thisstudyfocusesonthetranslationof"non-action"infourdifferentversionsoftheEnglishtranslationoftheTaoTeChing,usingthedepthtranslationframeworkasalenstoanalyzethevariousapproachestakenbytranslators.LiteratureReview:Depthtranslation,alsoknownasdeeptranslationorsubstantivetranslation,emphasizestheimportanceofpreservingtheculturalandlinguisticnuancesofthesourcetextwhileconveyingitsmeaningaccurately.InthecontextoftheTaoTeChing,thisapproachrequiresathoroughunderstandingofChineseculture,ethics,andphilosophytoensurethatthetranslationaccuratelyrepresentstheauthor'sintentionsandtheintendedmessageofthetext.Theconceptof"non-action"intheTaoTeChingisoftenassociatedwiththeideaofbeingpresentinthemomentwithoutattachmenttooutcomesorexternalinfluences.Itisacentralthemeinthetext,reflectingtheTaoistbeliefinlivinginharmonywithnatureandavoidingreactiveactionsthatdisruptthisbalance.ResearchMethodology:Toinvestigatethetranslationof"non-action"acrossthefourversionsoftheTaoTeChing,thisstudyemployedamixed-methodsapproach.Firstly,acomprehensivereviewoftheexistingliteraturewasconductedtoidentifykeyconceptsandthemesrelatedto"non-action"intheTaoTeChing.Thisreviewincludedanalysisofpreviousstudiesontranslationtheory,culturalstudies,andphilosophicalinterpretationsofthetext.Secondly,adetailedexaminationofeachversionwasconducted,focusingonthetranslationofkeyphrasesandsentencesthatdirectlyaddress"non-action."Aqualitativeapproachwasused,involvingclosereadingandanalysisofthetranslationstoidentifyanydiscrepanciesorinconsistenciesininterpretation.Additionally,aquantitativeapproachwasemployedtomeasurethefrequencyandrelevanceofspecifictranslationstrategiesusedbytranslators.Results:Theresultsofthisstudyrevealedseveralkeyfindingsregardingthetranslationof"non-action"intheTaoTeChing.Firstly,thefourversionsvariedsignificantlyintheirapproachtorepresenting"non-action,"withsometranslatorsfavoringamoreliteraltranslationapproachwhileothersoptedforamorecreativeandinterpretativeapproach.Secondly,theculturalcontextofeachversionplayedasignificantroleinshapingthetranslation,withsometranslatorsincorporatingChineseidiomaticexpressionsandculturalreferencesthatwerenotpresentinearliertranslations.Thirdly,thedepthtranslationframeworkidentifiedseveralcommonstrategiesemployedbytranslatorstoconvey"non-action"effectively.Thesestrategiesincludedusingmetaphorsandsimilestodepicttheabsenceofaction,employingneutrallanguagetoavoidbiasorjudgment,andincorporatingculturalreferencestoenhancethereader'sunderstandingofthetext'smeaning.Conclusion:Inconclusion,thisstudyhighlightsthecomplexityoftranslating"non-action"intheTaoTeChing.Whilethedepthtranslationframeworkprovidesausefultoolforanalyzingandcomparingdifferenttranslations,italsounderscorestheimportanceofconsideringculturalcontextandtheneedforanuancedapproachtotranslation.Futureresearchcouldfocusonexploringtheimpactofdifferenttranslationstrategiesonreaders'interpretationofthetext,aswellasinvestigatingthepotentialforcross-culturaladaptationsoftheTaoTeChinginotherlanguagesandcultures.Inconclusion,thisstudyhighlightsthecomplexityoftranslating"non-action"intheTaoTeChing.Whilethedepthtranslationframeworkprovidesausefultoolforanalyzingandcomparingdifferenttranslations,italsounderscorestheimportanceofconsideringculturalcontextandtheneedforanuancedapproachtotranslation.Futureresearchcouldfocusonexploringtheimpactofdifferenttranslationstrategiesonreaders'interpretationofthetext,aswellasinvestigatingthepotentialforcross-culturaladaptationsoftheTaoTeChinginotherlanguagesandcultures.Thisstudycontributestotheongoingdialogueonthenatureoftranslationbyprovidingempiricalevidenceofthechallengesandopportunitiesinherentinconveyingtheconceptof"non-action"acrossmultipleversionsoftheTaoTeChing.Itsuggeststhatwhiledeeptranslationcanenhancetheaccuracyandrichnessoftranslations,i
